Michael Draper
About
Michael Draper believes good stories matter. He often quotes Tom Waits, “ I like beautiful melodies telling me terrible things.” Influenced by the early CBGB triumvirate of Television, Patti Smith and The Ramones. He became enamored of writers like Flannery O’Conner, Denis Johnson, Miller Williams, Lewis Nordan and Cormac McCarthy. Encouraged to bare down on his writing by Steve Earle and Mary Gauthier, he began to focus on songs.
Recording under the name Sunday Shoes, Michael, has gathered praise for his songcraft and dark melodicism. Southern Gothic, Laurel Canyon, Folk and Roll Americana have all been used to describe the music of Sunday Shoes.
When he is at home in San Diego he plays every week and Grand Ole Barbecue, singing songs of wonder and loss
